SlingPlayer iPhone App Streams Video Over Wi-Fi; No 3G

Devices- Cellphones, Media players, Mobile applications, Mobile phones, Wireless Carriers June 12th, 2009

DMWMedia is reporting that Slingmedia is putting together an application that lets iPhone users stream their home TV channels to the device over a Wi-Fi connection. The application reportedly only supports WiFi only and not 3G. Apparently Apple and network partner AT&T disabled the application to stream video over a 3G connection fearing that it’ll take over the bandwidth. The same application is available for Blackberry and Motorola Q and is not blocked with 3G usage.

Nokia 5800 Xpress (will hopefully have Flash Lite in first release)

Devices- Cellphones, Flash Lite 3, Flash Lite ports, Operating Systems October 6th, 2008

The long-awaited touch screen mobile cell phone will be available on the fourth quarter. However, the new 5800 will not work exactly the same way as the iPhone. For instance, it will now allow users to zoom in and out by using two fingers as a point of motion. You must have seen the latest model from Nokia- 5800 Xpress. The new model will be available in Q4/08 and is supposed to compete with iPhone. The phone has touchscreen, 8G of RAM, users can download music from Nokia store just like Apple store, has a powerful 3.2MP camera, GPS, 3G, Wifi, full browser and is supposed to run video at 30 fps . It was not clear to me if the phone will run Symbian OS, but I am fairly sure it is going to be Symbian. It was also not clear to me if the phone has accelerometer like iPhone. ......continue reading

More on Samsung Instinct (and how similar it is to iPhone)

Devices- Cellphones, Devices- iPhone, Operating Systems July 11th, 2008

I generally went to Samsung Instinct web site to get a feel for the phone. I was very impressed by the features but it kept reminding me of iPhone at every step. It is hard to believe that Samsung has managed to copy iPhone in almost all aspects. Its size is similar to iPhone, the touch keypad is identical, the UI is similar to iPhone, and to be honest it has more features than iPhone- Live TV for example. ......continue reading

Well- finally Apple is out with a new iPhone. The phone has 3G network and also built in GPS chip. Why has mobile video phone not taken off?

Mobile phones, Video Technology June 4th, 2008

Nokia logo                            Well- the answer is simple. According to Nokia, people want to look good when they are speaking on the video phone. Therefore, video mobile phone will not take off as long as people are insecure about their appearance :) ......continue reading
