An article in Information week lists the top 5 cell phone makers as follows:

• Nokia (39%)
•  Sansung (15.9%)
•  Motorola (9.4%)
•  LG(8.4%)
•  Sony Ericsson (7.6%)

 Total of 291.5 million phones were shipped during the quarter, thats 14% jump over last year, same quarter.

Guess where the growth is? Emerging markets- these markets require cheap handsets with selected features. Application developers- take a hint- instead of writing your applications for cell phones, write something simple, intelligent and useful that these low end phones can use. There may be a bigger opportunity waiting :)
