Some of you have must have seen the documents published by Adobe on devnet that talk about several details of the Flash Lite digital home platform. One of the powerful features of the Flash Lite for digital home is the ability to be able to extend Actionscript. You can create your own Actionscript commands, define them and implement corresponding logic in Flash Lite code. Google acquires On2

Fiercemobile is reporting that On2 Technologies has been acquired by Google. As you know, On2 VP6 codec has been at the heart of Flash since Flash 8 and is popular in video streaming. Google apparently paid $106.5 million. Read the press release here. ......continue reading

Adobe AIR surpasses 100 million installations

$199 laptop with Intel ‘not’ inside (and Flash Lite)

Freescale is demoing $199 laptop based on its latest 1GHz iMX515 processor at CES. The processor is based on ARM architecture and among other things offers support for codecs, OpenGL/VG and not to mention, Flash Lite. OK- since Intel blamed Apple for choosing ARM (and not having Flash), it has sort of issued an apology saying that the comments were inappropriate.  One of the main reasons why Atom is not in iPhone is clearly because of its power consumption. If one was to put Atom in iPhone, the battery may just drain in few minutes as compared to a few hours today. Atom may be much better suited to run Flash, but an iPhone that needs charging every few hours isn’t going to do any good to Apple or us! ......continue reading

A recent blog in EDN suggests that Infineon CEO was ousted because of difference of strategy with the board and hints that a merger of NXP, Freescale and Infineon is possible. AT&T plans on rolling 4G networks in 700 MHz band

A recent article in EE Times suggests that AT&T has won rights to ‘B’ and ‘C’ block spectrum in 700 MHz band. These two spectrums have less strict regulations than the block ‘A’ won by Verizon, and so AT&T believes that they can quickly ramp up the infrastructure for 4G networks.  4G networks promise download speeds upto 236.4 MBPS according to Wikipedia. ......continue reading
